Recycle a prosthesis

An unused prosthetic limb can help someone walk again. Tell us what you have and we will arrange the rest.

When people get a new limb, outgrow one, or pass away, their old prosthesis is often thrown away or left in a cupboard. Many of the parts inside, such as feet, knees, joints and pylons, are built to last for years.

We collect these parts and pass them to recycling partners who clean them, test them and build them into new limbs for amputees in countries where prosthetics are hard to get or too expensive.

Because every socket is made for one person, a whole limb usually cannot be reused as it is. The value is in the components.

What we can take

Yes, please

  • Complete prosthetic legs and arms
  • Prosthetic feet, knees and elbows
  • Pylons, tubes, adapters and connectors
  • New, unopened liners and socks
  • Crutches and walking aids in good condition

Not usually

  • Used liners and socks (for hygiene reasons)
  • Broken or badly damaged parts
  • Electronic or microprocessor limbs (ask us first)

How it works

  1. Tell us what you have using the form.
  2. We reply with drop-off or postage options near you.
  3. Clean the limb and pack it securely.
  4. Your donation goes to a partner clinic, and we let you know where it helped.

Offer a prosthesis or parts

For example: below-knee leg with carbon foot, or 2 prosthetic knees from our clinic.
